Ocala Photo Shoot '08

For about a month, I had been in contact and in conversation with some very nice people from an Equine Photographers group about coming out to Iron Spring Farm South for a photography workshop with a famous photographer, whose name escaped me. Not until two days before the event did I find out/realize that the photographer in question was Gabriele Boiselle, an artist whose work I have admired in books and calendars for years. One of the conditions for using the property and various horses was that I got to tag along and try to learn something. To get an idea of why I was excited to have her here on the farm, go to her website, www.edition-boiselle.com and have a look at her work. It turned out ot be a fantastic time, and I hope that what she tried to instill in everyone in the workshop eventually will show up in my future work.

I wonder if the horses felt like Brittany.

One of the reasons that Gabriele wanted to come to our farm was that we had Friesians. Here is Ate, A.J. and Debi Stapleton's 8yo stallion at the end of the first day, using some of the last available light.

Ate turned out to be the real star of the show on the first day.

Alex and Amber got to play dress-up for the work shop. Maybe I should say that they graciously agreed to be subjects/models. Here is Alex and Ravolite.

Here is Amber and MVP. I think that John and Audrey Shoemaker's great gelding holds all the records for appearances on this website. As you can see, your intrepid house photographer still has a lot to learn about light.

A couple of days after the workshop, Gabrielle came back to the farm to shoot some of Mary Alice's stallions. This is Teade, one of Gabriele's favorites. She saw him as a young horse in Holland and was very exited to get a chance to work with him.

She also took some great shots of Mary Alice riding both Teade and Ulbert, after which she got some "girls love horses" shots. I took this one of MA and Ulbert trading wild ass hair stories.

You can see by her expression how much she loves what she does.

Stay tuned....................................
